No matter we’re living or traveling abroad, shopping is the thing that we must do. Also, when learning a new language, people are often curious about how to bargain. Therefore, we are going to learn the conversation of buying things this week.

When we find some thing we like, one of the questions that we would ask the clerk is “How much is this?” In Korean, we say, “얼마예요?” To be specific, we can add the product in the beginning of the sentence “이 __이 얼마예요?” In this case, we might hear the clerk answer, “__만__천원입니다.” In Korean, “만” means “ten thousand,” “천” means “thousand,” “원” means “dollars,” and “입니다” is the particle. The following is the Korean numbers and pronunciation that we use with dollars.

1/일/il ; 2/이/i ; 3/삼/sam ; 4/사/sa ; 5/오/o

6/육/yuk ; 7/칠/chil ; 8/팔/pal ; 9/구/gu ; 10/십/sip

After knowing the price, we may want to bargain. In this case, we can say “너무 비싸요,” which means “too pricy,” or “좀 깎아주세요,” which means “cheaper.” If the clerk really gives you a discount, don’t forget to say thank you with “감사합니다!”
